Nylon wouldn’t stand a chance. The situation is different with old cars. If you are stuck in an older estate car and for some inexplicable reason cannot get help, but have a nylon stocking to hand, you can use the stocking as a makeshift V-belt. At least in the short term, to get to the nearest petrol station or a place with mobile phone reception
